Menopause

Menopause and Life in Midlife

A time of change in your body, in your life, and perhaps in the way you see yourself.

Menopause is about more than hormones and physical symptoms. For many women it arrives alongside other shifts in work, relationships, family and how they think about the years ahead. If you no longer quite feel like yourself and can't put your finger on why, there is room here to talk it all through, without needing the answers first.

When your body and your life are both changing

Perimenopause and menopause feel different for everyone. Some women mainly notice physical changes. Others find themselves restless, sleeping badly, running on less energy or asking new questions about their lives.

It is often also the time when children leave home, or when the realisation settles that a life with children did not happen. Parents grow older, fall ill or die. Relationships, sex and intimacy may change, and work can ask a great deal.

Not all of this is caused by menopause, but it can shape how you experience it.

What we know about menopause

  • Menopause is a biological transition, but it is always lived within a wider psychological and social context.
  • Experiences vary widely. Some women notice very little; others have a genuinely difficult time.
  • Sleep, physical symptoms, emotional wellbeing and life circumstances can all affect one another.
  • Clear information, being understood and support that fits you as an individual make a real difference.
  • Menopause-specific CBT has evidence for certain symptoms. It is different from the existential therapy I offer.

How I work

We start with whatever is taking up space for you: worries, a changing sense of self, relationships, loss, new possibilities, or a feeling of standing somewhere different in life than before.

The aim is not to tell you how you should feel, but to make room for reflection, understanding and what matters to you.

Our conversations can complement medical advice and treatment, but they do not replace a medical assessment.

What our conversations can help with

  • Making sense of emotional and psychological changes
  • Exploring identity and priorities that are shifting
  • Navigating relationships and midlife transitions
  • Space for questions, worries and new perspectives

Typical concerns

  • Emotional unrest and lower energy
  • Changes in self-image and identity
  • Relationships, partnership and sexuality
  • Poor sleep and how it affects everyday life
  • Children leaving home and parents growing older
  • Thoughts about ageing, work and the future

Frequently asked questions

Should I speak to my GP first?

It is a good idea to talk to your doctor about physical symptoms and treatment options. Our sessions can sit alongside that, but they do not replace a medical assessment.

How do I know whether it's menopause or something else?

It isn't always possible to tell, and you don't need to. We start from what you are noticing and what is going on in your life right now.

Is this CBT?

No. I work existentially. If menopause-specific CBT would suit you better, I can help you find it.

Can we meet online?

Yes. You can choose sessions in central Copenhagen, online, or a mix of both.

How much does it cost?

See the Fees page. The intro call is free.
